If you are resident in Stapleford Abbotts and have never heard of the Welfare Trust, you could be in for a very pleasant surprise. This is an organisation originally started by charities dating back to the 18th-century, which gave gifts of meat and bread to residents; today its trustees provide food hampers at Christmas to parishioners. This practical aspect is boosted by a lively social side that aims to combat loneliness and isolation, especially for those who can’t get out and about easily, with a calendar of afternoon teas, pub lunches and visits to theatres and arts venues every other month. It’s fun and friendly, and all those who would like to get involved, please call Mandy McCormack on 07753 932041 or emailmandymccormack8@gmail.com
